James C. Stufflebeam | Vice President | Senior Designer | Project Manager
Jim has been practicing architecture for some 34 years, but even as a young lad, he “practiced” and pursued the artistic, spacial, and problem solving skills that would lead to a successful career. Jim has been with SDA Architects for 18 years, having joined the firm in 1993.
Education: Bachelor of Architecture; Kansas State University, 1977. Various academic honors and scholastic memberships, past and present, of various professional associations, including Construction Specifier’s Institute, Historic Preservation Society, Springfield 2020 Commission, Council of Educational Facility Planners International, and others.
A Favorite Quote: “There is a common misconception that Architecture is nothing more than a highly specialized system of prescribed technical goals, rather than a sensuous social art responsive to real human desires and experience.”
Role/Experience at SDA: Jim’s career includes a diverse group of project types, several of which have been published and have received local and national recognition and design awards. He has served as Project Architect and Senior Designer for many civic and landmark projects across the State. He attends conferences and seminars on a regular basis to stay abreast of trends and developments in the design and construction industry. As Senior Project Manager, Jim is involved in project scheduling, budgeting, Master Planning, and in-house management and leadership of project teams. Jim is heavily involved with client relations and provides leadership in all phases and aspects of services to our clients.
Personal Statement: Besides Architecture, my other great passion is for family. The family side of things involves a lot of different activities, having two kids who will marry this year, and one who will graduate from MSU. We enjoy travel, wedding planning, building things, fixing things, eating out, and just enjoying the simple pleasures like a glass of tea on our completed porch-deck project.

One way I do this is by helping with The Kitchen (Community outreach organization), OPT (Ozark Public Television, pledge drive volunteer), the American Red Cross, and in many other very small ways to help support my community.
Other hobbies and pastimes include; fishing and golf as well as gardening, home construction projects and great BBQ.
My credentials and educational background include a Bachelor of Architecture and a Bachelor of Arts (studio art) from Drury University, graduated in 1991.
